Dosud se ale neví, zda byly nalezeny nějaké stopy. Robert Murat byl nakonec spolu s dalšími dvěma osobami propuštěn.
Policejní mluvčí uvedla, že už mají jednoho podezřelého, jeho totožnost však odmítla sdělit. Policisté pátrají i v okolních lékárnách, Maddie totiž mohla být omámena chloroformem. Policisté mají podezření, že dívku mohla unést mezinárodní síť pedofilů, nebo osob, které organizují nelegální adopce. Stopy vedou do zahraničí. Organizace je pravděpodobně řízena z Británie. Je možné, že aby byla Maddie bezproblémově vyvezena za hranice, byla ostříhána, a je vydávána za chlapečka.
Do boje o malou Maddie se zapojila i řada celebrit, třeba fotbalista David Beckham nebo spisovatelka J. K. Rowling, které se složily na odměnu 110 milionů Kč pro toho, kdo k nalezení Maddie pomůže.
